After getting the bike back from my 4000 mile service the Idle is a little high after the bike is heated up(1050-1100RPM)This might be a stupid question but the knob low and to the right of the air filter is that the Idle adj? The owners manual says to go the shop to have anything done with the carb.

Thanks

Yup. That's the idle adjuster. After the bike is good and hot just turn it counter clockwise until the idle is where you want it.

Where does the PMS come into this?

The shop that did my first service adjusted my idle up as well. They claim to many riders wanna idle it down and causes the rear fender to shake to much and crack. Turned it back down on the way out of the parking lot.

if too low an idle causes the fender to crack, wonder what riding the R* does to the fender..
I like the slow lop sound the bike makes at low idle, but usually keep the idle about 950-1,000 rpm
keeps the oil pressure up a little better than the real low idle.

My back fender used to look like it was about to come loose with all the side to side motion when my bike was at idle and while I don't know if that was the reason, my fender has some spider cracks in it. I finally reinforced the under side with J.B.weld.

My fender cracked on both sides pretty bad at the end of the fender subframe. I had to re-enforce it by adding more support right up to the end of the fender. I always run my idle at around 1000rpm as well and it does shake the fender a lot but so did my old Harley. I contacted Yamaha Australia with the problem and they stated it was probably caused by excess weight on the back, gear sacks, pillions etc. (190kg /420lb limit they said)and offered me 20% of a new fender. Big DEAL! still would of worked out to be over a $1000.00 Australian. Anyway I had it fixed and the whole bike painted with airbrush work by some contacts at work for the sum of $650.00. Yahoo, I stuck it to the man.
