Backfire 3 Years, 10 Months ago
|
|
Every time I shut the bike off after its heated up, not hot like stop and go traffic or even hot weather out, just 20 minuets of ridding or so,I get a backfire after about a 3 second delay. The backfire makes me feel like Uncle Buck. Part of the reason the shop turned the PMS out to 3, they said, was to help stop it from backfiring. I don't get any backfire while riding, not when letting off the throttle at high RPMs or anything. The bike didn't do this when I first got it and I started to use some ring free to see it that might help but so far no luck. I was hoping someone might have an Idea for me to try.
Thanks
Moondog

Don't twist the throttle before you shut it down. Let the bike idle for 15 seconds or so before you turn it off. And maybe try turning you idle speed down a tad.

When I shut the bike down I turn the fuel off and let it idle for about 10-20 seconds.
I will turn the idle down before I ride home from work today and see if that helps.

Turned the idle down to 950 and when I got home NO BACKFIRE
I hope that takes care of it for good.
Thanks Musky for your help.

Glad it worked Your idle doesn't need to be any higher than 900. And dropping it down to 800 won't hurt a thing.

I keep my rpm between eight and nine hundred. Read somewhere to put it at seven fifty but my bike is a little rough there. It sounds like your problem is solved but if it starts again you might want to think about putting some valve treatment in your gas.

I started putting in Ring Free to try and get rid of my problem. Maybe that is what fixed it, either way the ring free or lowering the RPMs it didn't backfire last night when I got home and it didn't backfire this morning when I got to work
