Riding in the Rain 3 Years, 10 Months ago
When I bought my bike it already had the BAK on it, and it seems to be ok; The first day I had the bike on the road, I got caught up in 3 or 4 small rainy spots, none too torrential, but enough to get my shirt wet all the way through. The bike ran fine, and has run strong since then. I hadn't given any thought to my open air breather on the BAK, but after seeing someone talking about the K&N Raincoat on another topic, its got me wondering if I should invest in one (it rains at least every other day in Louisiana in the summer) or if I should look at some other option to protect it...

So, should I cease riding in the rain without some sort of protection, and if I need something, what are my options/best option?

My 2 cents on the filter. I was thinking about putting the K&N RA-066V on my 01 RS, I thought about the rain and it being exposed. I ended up installing the K&N filter that fit in the stock air box. Increased the horse power and the bike is not as loud as before.

I also have a BAK and you only need to worry about it if you get caught in a terrential down poor. I went on a trip this summer and hit some pretty good rains and didnt have any problems ( I was to lazy to stop).

But it all depends on how heavy of a rain you are willing to ride in and I geuss it dosnt hurt to have one just incase.

You will need a raincoat for it if you park out in the rain for any lenght of time but as long as you keep your filter oiled you should be okay......some rain intrusion will just blow the carbon out the pipes ......Coug

I got caught in a heck of a rain last week for 1/2 an hour coming home. Forgot all about the Mr. C. But it ran fine the whole time. Like Cougar says, parking in the rain it's bound to get to much in unless covered. So far , so good with mine.

I had a Hypercharger and never got caught in the rain so can't say for that one. BUT I now have a BAK and I did get caught once in a good downpour and yes it does cause the engine to spit and sputter. I had to pull over and wait until it stopped and after I cranked it up it took a while just sitting there running to smooth out. I never got the chance to put my rain coat on it to see if that helped.

like Coug said, a little water is like steam cleaning the engine,,too much and it sputters...
