Tires 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Got a stock 02 with 8400 miles that needs tires. The rear went out around 3800 and is about gone again. the front is original and it's really gone.I'm really not impressed with this bike (original owner) but thats another story. I don't ride it hard what gives?

What tires are you running? Thats not many miles. The first ones on mine well the back one anyway didnt last at all.. I beleave it was a maxxis or something like that. I changed to Metzler and it has been doing alot better. I have about 8000 on the back one now and it will be good for another 4000 or so... The front one was another cheap maxxis when i bought the scoot. Had just a tad over 16000 on it when i bought it. Has 35000 on it now and stil the same tire... But it is getting time to change it.

Unless you have really cheap tires, that will not hold the weight of the R*.. you should get 8,000 to 12,000 miles pretty easy out of a rear.
changed my Bridgestones at just over 12, and had life left in them just starting to flat in the center tread. Have Metx 880's on know and seem real nice.
Do you do burn outs or are they just cheap tires? Air pressure will affect tire wear as well.
Storing the bike on the tires will give them flat spots and cause early wear.
You also need to get out and ride that thing 8400 miles is way to low for an 02.. get out and enjoy it..
Have Fun

to give any real response, we'll need to know what brand tire you originally ran and what you replaced it with. I got about 5500 on my stock bridgestone rear and that was with a brutal right hand. I'm at 10k now with my next bridgestone and it barely looks used. Much lighter hand. gas prices you know.....

I got 15,000 out of the rear and 19,000 out of the front OEM Bridgestones, but didn't like they way they rode.
Put a Metzler ME880 on the rear and loved the performance, but only got 7,300 miles out of it.
I have Dunlop Cruisemax front and rear now and will see how long they last. They handle great, though.
Underinflated tires will wear more quickly. And the fact that I weigh 250+ means I'll get fewer miles than some of our compadres. Two-up riding reduces the lifespan as well.
I believe some of the forum members get fewer miles because they live in areas of high heat, so hotter road surfaces have an effect, too.
Bottom line, though, is that you should be able to get a good 12,000 miles out of the right tire under "normal" riding conditions.

Originals were Dunlop, I have used Continental. Recently installed the fourth rear at 36,600, which makes an average of 12,200 per tire.

Original/stock Dunlop on front, replacement Dunlop on back. The rear replacement was suggested by local shop when I did the replacement. I do check the pressure ocassionaly. No burn outs, I don't know if this pig could anyway!
