Basic PMS Question 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Don't want to sound stupid - but - where is the PMS screw? Bottom - looking up - of carb? And if so how the heck do you get to it and drill hole in plug? Dou I have to remove the air box to get at it?

Go to the tech articles and read the principles of modern motorcycle carbs. It has a good pic of the PMS location. The rejet your carb article tells you how to take the carb off and get the brass plug out.

So you need to take carb off?

Also - my dealer plugged the AIS holes on cylinders but left the rest of the AIS junk on bike when he installed my slip ons. Could my backfiring problem be AIS related vs PMS?

Note: Exhaust actually smells rich

Musky - I was studying the Principles article. And that's showing "Bottom" of carb right? That's how I was sondering how the heck to get a drill in there. Taking off carb makes more sense. Grues I should have ordered aftermarket adjustable PMS screw.

Backfiring since the slip-ons went on is dramatic. Need to do something soon.

Did they plug the hose coming off the manifold or take the hose off and cap off the port on the manifold?

You can adjust the PMS with the carb on the bike after you get the brass plug out. A barons screw will make it easier. Are you sure you don't have an exhaust leak where the mufflers slip on to the header pipes?

Looks like they put plugs in cylinder ports. Not sure what other hose to check.

How can I check for leak?

Tech articles. Scroll down to AIS.

For the exhaust leak - Use a stick of incense or a cigarette. See if the smoke gets blown around

Can't find any exhaust leak. Is there a AIS hose coming from intake manifold I need to check? I'm thinking in case he didn't know what he was doing I could have air leak there. Cylinders are plugged. New slip ons don't have AIS, so I would think that would be only thing incomplete AIS removal could have to do with the backfiring.

I didn't realize I had to take off the carb to start adjusting PMS. In that case I'll order adjust PMS screw ans wait for a rainy day. Too nice in Rochester this weekend to risk bike not running.
