While at Hot Springs I had a few people ask me how I wired up my 4 way flashers. Rather than a long technical explanation I decided to draw the diagram and point out the hook up points.  This entire project took all of 1 hour to install including drilling the hole for the switch. I placed my switch on the top of the left side cover of my Road Star. Total cost for parts is about $13.00

Refer to the Diagram::

One side of the fuse holder goes to the POSITIVE side of the battery.

The other side goes to the Flasher can, the NON-load side of the flasher .

The other terminal on the flasher, the LOAD (L) side, goes to one set of switch leads which are jumped together upon the Double Pole Single Throw switch (DPST)

The other switch leads get tapped into the wiring that is going into the rear fender.  (These wires can be seen with the seat removed and they are just behind the battery on the left-hand side.)

One wire is tapped into the Chocolate wire,   (brown-Left),

the other is tapped into the Dark Green wire, (Right).

The flashers should be operational now.

(Remember since they are wired into the Positive side of the battery, they are unaffected by the Ignition switch. They will remain on with key turned to off position. If left on for extended periods of time you will drain the battery.)

Yo! Bill,

You're either using the wrong kind of switch or hooked it up wrong.

The switch listed is a DPST type, (Double Pole Single Throw), and it has 4 connectors on it. (I know this because I wrote the article back in '99).

You should have a lead that goes from the battery through a fuse to the blinker to a set of terminals on the switch that are the center most terminals of the switch. These 2 terminals are jumped together.

This allows power to feed each side of the switch when it is on and powers each side of the lighting system for R front and rear and L front and rear.

When looking at the switch terminals you will have 2 across from each other at one edge of the switch and 2 terminals across from each other towards the physical center of the switch. The ones at the physical center of the switch are the jumped together.

The Chocolate bike wire connects to one of the other connectors at the edge of the switch. The Dark Green connects to the other connector. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT JUMP THE CHOCOLATE AND DARK GREEN TOGETHER. Doing this will connect the Left and Right side of the lighting system together and ALL lights will come on when you turn on a signal or the 4 ways.

Check your wiring or the switch for proper type.

I hate electrical stuff......I think I understand everything in the directions except tapping into the hot wire from the battery for the in-line fuse holder.
Do you just clamp the in-line fuse holder to the battery post?
I've got an '06 and hope this works, Thanks

When I wired my 04 as described worked great until I turn on my turn signal (right or left0
Then all both flash....Even with switch off.
Are the 04's set up different?
Thanks
