Removing the Pickup Rotor and the Primary Drive GearTo remove the stuff on the left end of the crankshaft, remove the pickup rotor bolt and spacer. See photo below.

Tip: If you need leverage to hold the shaft from turning, temporarily install the clutch basket and gear. Then use your folded copper washer between the clutch basket and primary drive gear to lock the primary in place. Again, if you have access to an impact wrench use it instead. Next, slide off the pickup rotor. Don’t worry about keeping track of its alignment or position. It can only go on one way. Then you can slide off the primary drive gear, to expose the bare end of the crankshaft. However, be cautious as you do this, as there is a straight-key that keys the gear to the shaft. The key may get lost if you’re not careful. Store the small parts in a labeled baggie, and store together with the primary drive gear. |
